Crusty Bread

Ingredients

800g plain flour or bread flour

14g fresh yeast

550ml water

2 tsp salt










Method

  1. Combine ½ the flour, yeast and water into a bowl and set aside for 5 minute or until the yeast is bubbly

  2. Then add in the rest of the flour and transfer to a floured bench knead for 10 minutes the place back in the bowl and let the bread prove for 1 hour in a warm place

  3. Remove dough from bowl an knead again , this time shape the dough and place on a lined baking dish, let prove for another 30 minutes

  4. Bake at 180 degrees with a pan of ice on the bottom of the oven – this will assist the crust to form this can be left out

Notes

  • For a slit down the mild of the dough make an incision across the dough before baking using a sharp knife, ensuring to go to deep

  • This recipe is also great for buns, just don’t cook with ice in the oven for a more fluffy exterior
